When ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. — Mark 11:24 | sermon by Father.Mungamuri Devadasu
Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." — Mark 11:24
Explanation:
In this verse, Jesus teaches four key principles about prayer:
- Pray
for something specific.
- It
may not be fulfilled immediately.
- Even
if it is not yet fulfilled, believe that it has already been granted.
- Then,
it will be fulfilled in reality.
This raises an important
question:
"How can I believe that something is fulfilled when it has not yet
happened? Isn't that a lie?"
To human
perception, it may seem false, but in God’s eyes, it is already true.
The fulfilment is already visible to the Father, even if it is not yet
visible to us.
When we
follow this verse, our physical strength and human logic may fail us.
Imagine seeing someone suffering from a severe illness. Would we dare to say, "Your
sickness is gone! Praise God!"? This defies natural reasoning,
yet Jesus calls us to believe first, even before we see it.
When
should we believe? At the moment we ask.
Some may
say, "I don't feel it. I haven't had a vision. I haven't had a dream. I
just don't feel faith." The response is simple: Jesus said it,
and that is enough. Our faith may be weak, but His word never
fails. A man once brought his sick son to Jesus and said, "Lord,
I believe, but help my unbelief!" – Mark 9:24
This is
the key: We are not relying on our own weak faith but on God’s
unwavering faithfulness. When we pray, we must stand on His word,
not on our feelings or understanding.
