Sermon on Luke 18:1 | by Father.Mungamuri Devadasu

Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up." — Luke 18:1

Explanation:

In every person’s life, weariness is inevitable. No matter how strong, patient, or faithful one may be, challenges will bring moments of discouragement. Whether it's reading the Bible, enduring a harsh summer, or waiting for rain, weariness can creep in. However, true prayer has two essential qualities: (1) Praying without growing weary and (2) Praying continually.

Weariness in prayer often arises when time, place, or circumstances seem unfavourable. But if we grow weary in prayer, it is no longer true prayer. In Luke 18, Jesus shares the parable of a persistent widow who repeatedly approached an unjust judge for justice. Though she had reasons to be discouraged, she did not give up. Eventually, the judge granted her request—not out of kindness, but because of her unwavering persistence.

Likewise, when we pray and do not receive an immediate answer, we must not grow weary or assume that God has not heard us. We have a divine right to pray at all times, trusting that God listens and will respond in His perfect timing. If we let weariness take over, we lose our rightful position in prayer, and in turn, delay the justice that God desires to fulfil in our lives. The parable teaches us that just as the judge eventually acted on behalf of the widow, God will surely bring justice to those who pray persistently and faithfully.

Why We Must Not Grow Weary in Prayer

Even if answers seem delayed, God listens. We should not grow weary simply because we have not yet received a response or seen a breakthrough. Instead of focusing on the apparent lack of answers, we should remember that God will certainly bring justice and provide a response in His perfect time.

The Harm of Weariness in Prayer

  1. It disrupts continuous prayer – When we grow discouraged, we stop praying.
  2. Doubt creeps in – We start questioning, Why should I continue praying?
  3. We lose faith in answered prayer – Just because we have not yet seen the outcome, we assume it will never come.
  4. Prayer loses its power – When we pause or abandon prayer, we miss experiencing its transformative nature.

The Key to Unwavering Prayer

  1. Believe that your prayer is being heard, even if you don’t see immediate results.
  2. Continue praying without doubt or discouragement.
  3. Have faith that God will answer in His time.

True, persistent prayer is unceasing, unwavering, and filled with faith. It is not just about requesting, but about believing that God is actively working. Those who pray without weariness are the ones whom God chooses to fulfil His divine purposes. Through prayer, perseverance, and faith, we align ourselves with God’s will, knowing that He hears and responds.

When we pray for something, God desires to fulfil that request, but He seeks people who are willing to bring His answers into reality. These are the ones who pray without growing weary and who pray continuously. Just as God needs teachers to teach, comforters to care for the sick, and servants to resolve difficulties, He also needs prayer warriors to bring forth His answers. Christ’s disciples were well-trained in God’s presence, equipping them to serve the world effectively. They listened, learned, prepared themselves, received renewed strength, and spread His message with confidence. Even when they faced weariness, they did not give up on their mission. If we embrace both prayer and service, God will use us for His great purposes. We must pray with the desire to be chosen by Him, knowing that when we follow His instructions, we become vessels for His divine work. Today, prayer is fading as challenges make people feel weary and question what to pray for, but instead of losing heart, we must rise in prayer and perseverance, trusting that God will use us for His glory.

Continuous prayer is essential, as the Lord has commanded us to pray always, assuring us that He will bring justice swiftly. The mention of "day and night" emphasizes the persistence required in prayer. If answers do not come immediately, we should not grow weary, for continuous prayer brings fulfilment. God listens to prayers promptly, and having faith in this promise is crucial. The assurance that He hears us can be understood in two ways: as a historical account where He answered a woman's plea and as a future certainty that He will listen to the prayers of those He has chosen. Just as breath is essential for physical life, prayer is vital for spiritual life. Without prayer, the spirit weakens, but through persistent prayer, we align ourselves with God's will, receiving His guidance and strength.

Story of Hagar , Genesis 16:1-12; John 8:31-38, 57-59; Galatians 4:28-31 | sermon by Father.Mungamuri Devadasu

Hagar was Sarah’s maidservant. According to Sarah’s wishes, she bore a son for Abraham. However, this led to Sarah’s anger and resentment. Eventually, following Sarah’s command, Abraham sent Hagar and her son away with a skin of water and a small amount of food. She wandered aimlessly in the wilderness of Beersheba, lost and uncertain. Overcome with grief and despair, Hagar’s eyes were clouded with sorrow. Yet, having lived in Abraham’s household, she had developed an inner perception and the ability to listen. Likewise, her physical senses remained strong. The angel of the Lord appeared to her and said, "God has heard the cry of the child; do not be afraid." Hagar’s Condition: She was cast out from Abraham’s household. She was wandering alone. She had no water in the wilderness. Amid these hardships, she was on the verge of death. Hagar’s story teaches us that "God’s help comes to us in our greatest distress." She was in deep despair, lost and withou...

Those who have needs, and the One who fulfills them – the Lord.

Sermon : "Those who have needs, and the One who fulfills them – the Lord." Ezekiel 17:24; John 14:14; Romans 4:21 Beloved ones who have many needs—may you be filled with satisfaction and peace! The theme of today’s sermon is: "Those who have needs, and the One who fulfills them – the Lord." To illustrate this, I present two sides before you: the right side with one stack, and the left side with another. Before we begin the sermon, let me say this—there are 66 books in the Bible, but I will highlight only four of them: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Although written by four different people, all four books focus on one story—the life of Jesus Christ . It is not four different accounts, but one united message. Now, the truth I want to emphasize is this: every person in the world has some needs —things they have not yet received, experienced, or possessed. Among these needs: 1. The First Need: "I want to see God." This desire was not present in...
