The Gifts of God ( Sermon by Mungamuri. Devadasu)

Scripture References: Deuteronomy 33:11–15; Mark 16:14–20; Revelation 22:17

God, the Giver of Light

The glorious God shines His light into this dark world (John 1:5). Therefore, let us praise the one true God on behalf of both the Church and the world.

Understanding God’s Gifts

The Bible says:

·        James 1:17 – “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights.”

God’s gifts are like lamps in our hands. Their light is useful, but the same fire can burn our clothes if misused. The sun is a blessing, but if we walk barefoot in the summer heat, our feet will be scorched. A knife can serve well, but without care, it wounds .

So it is with the gifts of God. He has given us many gifts (Romans 11:29), and if I began to name them, I could speak all night. But if we misuse them or neglect them, they may bring great harm. That is why the Lord warns us not to be careless (Hebrews 2:1–3).

God, in His generosity, grants us both blessings and gifts:

·        Blessings are good, but if unused, they bring inconvenience.

·        Gifts (1 Corinthians 12:4–11) are greater, but if misused or neglected, they bring spiritual loss and danger.

Jesus taught that the servant who failed to use his talent had it taken away:

·        Luke 19:26 – “For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.”

The Precious Gifts of God

1.     The Gift of Vision
To see the Lord Jesus in a vision is itself a gift.

o   Acts 9:10–12 – Ananias and Paul both received visions.

2.     The Gift of Open Manifestation
To behold the Lord openly is a very rare gift.

o   Acts 7:55–56 – Stephen saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at His right hand.

3.     The Gift of Voice Revelation
The Lord speaks to His children in two ways:

o   When we ask, He answers (Jeremiah 33:3).

o   Even when we do not ask, He speaks what we need to hear (John 10:27).
Thus, His voice comes to us both for our need and for His purpose.

4.     The Gift of Writing Revelation
The Lord may reveal His will through writing.

o   Exodus 31:18 – “He gave unto Moses… two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.”
A powerful example: To Father.M. Devadasu Ayya, God wrote the words “Bible Mission” in the air. He had not asked to write, nor to establish a mission, yet the Lord revealed it by His will through this writing gift.

5. The Gift of Wisdom

This is the original and foremost gift, for God gave this gift before all others. Vision, open manifestation, writing, and voice revelations are great, but the gift of wisdom stands first. Natural wisdom exists from birth, but that is not a gift; it is a donation given to both believers and unbelievers alike. Yet, when Solomon asked for wisdom, God granted him this spiritual gift (1 Kings 3:9–12).

True wisdom discerns between right and wrong. Rev. Devadasu Ayya once observed a court case where the lawyers argued, and the judge, by wisdom, declared the truth about the accused. Indeed, God gives great wisdom even to judges. How much more will He grant wisdom to those who trust Him?

·        Proverbs 2:6 – “For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.”

6. The Gift of Preaching the Word with Conviction

This gift is the power to proclaim God’s Word with boldness, declaring truth exactly as it is written, without compromise.

·        Acts 4:31 – “…they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.”

·        2 Timothy 4:2 – “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”

7. The Gift of Healing

Those with this gift also possess wisdom and vision to discern. They do not lay hands on the sick carelessly but discern whether faith is present and whether sin is forgiven. Healing is ministered in the Spirit, just as Jesus Himself did not heal where there was no faith (Mark 6:5–6).

·        Mark 16:18 – “…they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

·        1 Corinthians 12:9 – “…to another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit.”

8. The Gift of Tongues

This is not an earthly language, but a heavenly language. It is the Spirit’s gift, enabling believers to speak mysteries to God.

·        1 Corinthians 14:2 – “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.”

9. The Gift of Interpretation of Tongues

This gift explains the meaning of heavenly languages. It enables the congregation to be edified when tongues are spoken.

·        1 Corinthians 14:13 – “Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.”

·        1 Corinthians 14:27 – “…let one interpret.”

10. The Gift of Ministry (Service)

The ability to serve others is also a gift from God. To minister, to care for, and to help one another in practical ways is a divine grace.

·        Romans 12:7 – “Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching.”

·        1 Peter 4:10 – “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”

Using the Gifts Properly

The Lord who gave us these gifts expects us to use them rightly. If neglected, they will grow useless, like tools left to rust. For example, when someone sick comes to us: if we do not ask the Lord in prayer, we fail to use the gift correctly. That gift becomes ineffective.

Four Keys to Using Spiritual Gifts:

1.     Use the Wisdom God Gives (Proverbs 2:6).

2.     Be Rooted in the Word of God (2 Timothy 2:15).

3.     Seek the Lord’s Guidance in Prayer (Matthew 7:7).

o   If the Lord does not grant immediate healing, wait. Do not act in self-will.

4.     Encourage Faith in the Hearer (Mark 5:36).

o   As the Word is preached, faith rises in the hearts of listeners (Romans 10:17), and healing or blessing flows.

An example is the Bible Mission Swasthishala in Kakani, where as the Word was preached, faith arose in the hearts of the sick, and when prayer was offered, healing was granted. This is how gifts must be used — always depending on God, not on ourselves.

A Warning about Misuse

The parable of the talents teaches us this clearly:

·        Matthew 25:29 – “For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.”
Those who use their gifts faithfully will be entrusted with more. Those who neglect their gifts will lose even what they have.

Especially those with the gift of vision must be very careful. If not used rightly, the enemy may send false visions. That is why many today are deceived by wrong visions. The Scripture says:

·        Matthew 5:8 – “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”
Only those with pure hearts, yielded to God, will see truly.

Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, use the gifts of God with humility, thanksgiving, and reverence. Do not boast, for pride leads to a fall (Proverbs 16:18). Rather, remain indebted to the God who gave the gifts, and continually praise Him. As we use our gifts faithfully, He will grant us more gifts and greater grace.

May these words strengthen your spiritual growth and help you use the gifts of God for His glory. Amen.

Story of Hagar , Genesis 16:1-12; John 8:31-38, 57-59; Galatians 4:28-31 | sermon by Father.Mungamuri Devadasu

Hagar was Sarah’s maidservant. According to Sarah’s wishes, she bore a son for Abraham. However, this led to Sarah’s anger and resentment. Eventually, following Sarah’s command, Abraham sent Hagar and her son away with a skin of water and a small amount of food. She wandered aimlessly in the wilderness of Beersheba, lost and uncertain. Overcome with grief and despair, Hagar’s eyes were clouded with sorrow. Yet, having lived in Abraham’s household, she had developed an inner perception and the ability to listen. Likewise, her physical senses remained strong. The angel of the Lord appeared to her and said, "God has heard the cry of the child; do not be afraid." Hagar’s Condition: She was cast out from Abraham’s household. She was wandering alone. She had no water in the wilderness. Amid these hardships, she was on the verge of death. Hagar’s story teaches us that "God’s help comes to us in our greatest distress." She was in deep despair, lost and withou...

Those who have needs, and the One who fulfills them – the Lord.

Sermon : "Those who have needs, and the One who fulfills them – the Lord." Ezekiel 17:24; John 14:14; Romans 4:21 Beloved ones who have many needs—may you be filled with satisfaction and peace! The theme of today’s sermon is: "Those who have needs, and the One who fulfills them – the Lord." To illustrate this, I present two sides before you: the right side with one stack, and the left side with another. Before we begin the sermon, let me say this—there are 66 books in the Bible, but I will highlight only four of them: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Although written by four different people, all four books focus on one story—the life of Jesus Christ . It is not four different accounts, but one united message. Now, the truth I want to emphasize is this: every person in the world has some needs —things they have not yet received, experienced, or possessed. Among these needs: 1. The First Need: "I want to see God." This desire was not present in...
